I cannot explain what happens to young tough guys once they get old. John McCain was and is an American Hero that went through more pain then hopefully any of us would know. But once he reached a certain age he turned soft. Maybe this happens because people just get tired...tired of working, tired of thinking and tired remembering the tough times. Or maybe it's because they feel that they are coming closer to God and need to be more at ease and calm.
Something similar happend to Barry Goldwater but at least Goldwater left a legacy of great conservative thought and action and his decline was not played out for all the country to see.
It is sad that McCain's career ends this way but he has no one to blame but himself and the rest of us have to pay for it. I blame McCain because if he wasn't up for the fight he should have let someone else put on the gloves. He will ride off into the sunset in the dry-heat of Arizona while the rest of us burn in the humid and sweltering heat of an Obama Presidency.
Even after all this he had a chance to somewhat redeem himself and go after the attackers of Sarah Palin with the same intensity that he went after his own party for being "unfair" to Obama. McCain staffers have been trashing Palin by leaking stories to the press yet McCain remains silent. I never thought that I could look upon a war hero with distain but I am almost there.
